Vintage Quality

Having a poke around on an old hosting account I had and looking at the designs, they were pretty good! They were simple, effective and colourful, and much as I love it, this design isn’t really is it! I love the contrast on the ’second’ headers and the boxes on the home, still, I’m sticking with simple and dark for the moment!

Have a look at this, this and this if you want to know what I’m talking about!

Happy Easter!

Just The Odd Few Tweaks

Just made a few little tweaks this site needed after the more major (if quickly done) design change a while back. There’s new date, category and tag displays for each post as well as new icons for all of those and for the comment section on posts. Its only little but its a nice touch!

A couple of other tweaks too, including a ‘Donate’ and slight footer simplification as well as an improvement to ‘Image Attachment’ pages which frankly never made sense before.

Enjoy! I’m pretty pleased :)

A Brand New Design for 2010

Well, largely a new design anyway, at at least a total change in colour scheme. This site had had the old look for too long now, and its always good to have a refresh. This new look brings in some nice colours and an interesting approach to navigation and movement around the site.

The style is essentially dark blue/grey, with a new header design as well. The logo has been replaced with that which appears on most other websites. The new smaller links bar at the top provides links to my most popular other places (Facebook and Twitter) as well as RSS Feeds and also some of my other projects. The main links section for the site has been replaced with a new, friendly message which also acts as clear links for the site content.

Improved and simplified CSS has also been used.

At the moment there are still a few rough edges, with essentially the site structure still the same. There will be some future change to templates to better improve what is possible. The development of other sites has taught me alot more about all the things we can do with WordPress, and I’m keen to use them here too!

Anyway, geekyness over. Thanks, and I hope you like it!

The Powazek Look

Found this website today with all the iPad hype, and I love the design. The colours, the hover, the simplicity, it all comes together to form such a nice site. Really very good.

New Design for the New Year

I’m thinking it is about time for a new design adjustment. A major redesign might be a big challenge, and frankly, I’ve got better things to be doing! However, a new header is certainly on the cards. Here’s what I’m thinking this evening…

From this to this…

Perhaps a new RobParker.org.uk

I like it :)

Oh look, a new design!

Amazing as it is, I get bored at home, so playing with this entertains me. Its blue, and it has a much simplified homepage which was inspired by another site I was browsing earlier today. I really wanted the background to be a lighter colour (as I like this website to look light and bright) and I wanted to use this photo…

…but I couldn’t find the original so I had to settle for a cropped load of sky from another nice photo I have. I think it looks pretty decent, although I really cannot be bothered to test it with stupid Internet Explorer.

Enjoy! It’s likely that it won’t be here for long!

ROB… NEW

New, just a little play…

ROB

Its a bit dodgy, but I think it could be good. The photos are taken from my flickr – click on the Elsewhere tab at the top to get to it! :)

A find – an introduction to getting a website

Happened to stumble across this site today, and its actually quite a good read. Although I am actually past the stage this particular post really talks about, its really well written, clear, simple and straight-forward advice.

Although, the focus is really on blogging, with Wordpress the line between blogs and websites is pretty much non-existent (you’re on an example of that right now) so much of what works for one is for the other. Sadly, at the moment, this is only hosted on Wordpress.com, but perhaps sometime in the future I will move to a proper Wordpress install, plug-ins and all!

Anyway, here’s the link
